Chapter 9 = Shoes Shoes Everywhere

Walker stepped out of the van and entered the house. He left Diana outside in the van with a watchful eye on Zac and Nikki, letting them sleep. He called a family meeting once inside and everyone gathered in the living room. Taylor sat on the couch with Avery and Jessica. Isaac sat on the floor with Mackenzie beside him, playing with his trains on the floor. They all sensed that this was a somewhat serious matter, but none of them knew exactly what was the problem. No one had been told exactly why Their parents and Zac had up and left for Vancouver so suddenly. All Isaac had been told was that he was in charge and the rest of the siblings the same thing.

They waited, not quite patiently, wondering if they would now be let in on what the big secret was. Walker took a deep breath and started in.

"I'm sure by now that you all are wondering why Your Mother, Zac and I went to Vancouver this weekend. The reason is this. . . ."

Walker was interrupted as the door opened.

I walked into my new house, gazing with wonder at everything I saw. Yes, I know it sounds corny, but this was where I should have been growing up, where I would be growing up. We entered the foyer, Zac and I, and took off our shoes, put our coats in the closet. My shoes looked out of place next to the seven other pairs of shoes sitting there. Wait a sec . . . . . seven? Did I count that right? I've got to be really tired if I'm hallucinating shoes. Hmmm. . . lets see, 1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . . 4 . . . 5 . . . 6 . . . 7 . . . there were in fact seven pairs of shoes sitting there. All different sizes. Exactly how big was my family?

We walked towards the stairs, passing the entrance to what looked like the living room. I glanced in, noticed everyone staring at me and kept right on walking. I guess I was still asleep because normally, I probably would have felt self-concious. I'm not saying that I wasn't, I was just to tired to react.

Zac headed up the stairs and I followed.

The eyes of everyone in the living room followed the girl that walked in behind Zac's every movement. Who the heck was she? Why was she in their house? The silence was broken when she was out of sight. Isaac was the first to speak,

"Dad, who was that?" he asked.

"That is Nikki, she was the reason we went to Vancouver."

A chorus of "what?!"'s broke out.

"Ok then, lemme get this straight, you went all the way across the continent, to get Zac a girlfriend?????" said Taylor.

"No, Nikki is not Zac's girlfriend. Far from it in fact. Nikki is your sister. . . Zac's twin."
